Charley is a regular at Steamworks. He has lived in Seaford all his life, though he is originally from Cuckfield. A self-effacing man who prefers to stay under the radar, he always has a kind word and an upbeat take on any subject. Charley is an avid kayaker and lover of anything to do with the sea, but when he’s on dry land, he enjoys motorcycling, golf, and rugby.

Ulrike is a regular at Seaford beach and one of the Seaford mermaids, swimming year-round. A lover of the arts and music, she sings in the Bremf community choir. A Sussex resident since 1973, she is professor emerita in German and Cultural Studies at the University of Southampton, specializing in cultural identity.

Barnsley is a regular at Steamworks (his real name is David.) He is a forthright Yorkshireman, world traveller, and rugby player who has lived in Seaford since 1980. He describes himself as someone who appreciates a bit of badinage.

Michael is a regular at Sub-Station. He’s retired now and enjoys smoking, with a habit of forty a day.

Doug is a regular at Seaford Beach. He loves swimming and can be seen most days on the beach with the Mermaids. In his own words he can be “a bit of a twat, but means well” and tries hard to follow the ways of Jesus, while maintaining a wicked sense of humour. In his spare time he helps fix computers and bikes the latter of which brings him much joy.

Daryl is a regular (and the owner) of Substation. He has cultivated Substation as a special, inclusive place for people who may not fit in elsewhere, even opening its doors on Christmas morning. You may find him to be equally welcoming and ornery. Daryl is also an accomplished singer and songwriter. He gained fame after appearing on The X Factor, which ignited his passion for writing, leading to his debut album, Tribute.

Phil is a regular at the Steamworks who likes to stand at the bar enjoying good chat and banter with staff, locals and the regular flow of overseas tourists. A good listener, well travelled and a big sports fan, he tries not to take life too seriously.

He was larger than life with a wonderful talent of learning & playing his piano by ear. He was also an excellent opera singer.

Andrew is a regular at Steamworks, Sub-Station, Nomadic Sauna, and the beach. You can often find him with a sketchbook in hand, drawing portraits of friendly locals. He loves to swim and has formed an English Channel relay team named Seaford Seals. A native of Detroit, Andrew has settled in the UK and after a decade in London, has quickly grown to love East Sussex.

Paige is a regular at Seaford beach. She runs the Nomadic Sauna and surfs at Tide Mills on occasion when the waves cooperate. She is an artist, and you can’t miss her work if you’ve ever been to Sea Lanes in Brighton. Paige also currently has work at Gun Brewery in Heathfield.

Trish and Neil are regulars at Steamworks as well as friends and neighbours of the artist. Celebrating the all clear from cancer, they are very happy.

David is a regular at Sub-Station. He is a Smoggie, originally from Middlesbrough, and a former offshore diver. He is now a talented pet portrait and wildlife artist and also a drone pilot. David plays music for fun.

Pete is a regular at Steamworks. He relocated to Seaford in 2007, having previously lived in North Cheam, Surrey. Originally from Dublin, he has spent the majority of his adult life in the UK. He is co‑owner, alongside Stuart Ward, of Steamworks Seaford and Steamworks Glynde. With a professional background in financial management and IT, Peter is also the owner and director of Mad About Tax Limited, located at Seaford Train Station.

David is a regular at the nomadic sauna on Seaford beach. Every time he goes he does a headstand on the beach. He has been referred to as Asparagus David because he grows and shares lovely asparagus in the spring.

Trev is a regular at Steamworks. This frugal Mackem is a chef and a grape farmer. He is a caretaker to his friends, feeding them, remembering birthdays, and organising outings. He refers to himself as a "gobshite," but in reality, the words that emanate from his gob are anything but shite.
